ATCOM SOLUTIONS—.NET Consultancy

ABOUT ME

My name is Sven De Baets. Back in 1998, after three years of  experience in IT consultancy, I started out as a freelance developer.

Ever since, I have provided consultancy for several major Belgian and international companies in finance, insurance and industry.

My experience tells me that simple problems need a simple solution. That’s why I am a big believer of Agile Development. I have used it and love it. Finally, we have the tools to effectively use it!

I have always been a great believer in Microsoft technologies and I still am. I started out as a Visual Basic developer and continued to learn new products and technologies.

The focus of my work is on .NET and Visual Studio, mainly framework development. At Fortis AG, I was the lead architect on several .NET 1.1 and 2.0 frameworks (winforms, webforms, SOA business framework, operational framework). Some of the areas I covered are security, state management, MVC (Model View Controller), error handling and instrumentation.

Later on - when Fortis IT Benelux was consolidated - I became the .NET Domain Architect for Fortis Benelux. In this role it was my responsibility to provide strategic advise on .NET technology adoption.

I have always been an early adopter of new Microsoft technologies. I was lucky enough to start working early with VS2005. My client started developing in Beta1 and we were a member of the Microsoft Ascend Beta program. With VS2008 and .NET 3.5 it was more or less the same story. Together with MCS, I worked on an early adopter program for .NET 3.5.

I have always been a big believer in Service Orientation. On one of my projects I was a technical architect/DevLead on  a Contract-First project. This was before WCF. In the meantime, the market has matured and Service Orientation has really taken off.

Today the new challenges are about user experience (Silverlight, WPF) and Software+Services (Cloud services, Oslo). I am looking forward to the future ...
